Her early successes in the performing arts, which we now know as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier to be in the "child prodigy" category. It was an innate characteristic for a girl from Irish heritage, that was surrounded during her early days by talented relatives and parents. Maureen entered this caring haven on August 17, 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was an infant and was extremely adept in them. Her passion was coupled with a natural talent for performance. The fact that she was awarded nearly all the Feis Awards for her home country's drama and theatre performances is a testimony to the fact that she was a natural performer. At the age of 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dream in classical theater as well as singing opera.
